Who would have ever thought a chocolate grilled cheese would be so tasty?
If you're intrigued by this unique culinary delight, you need to check out Chocobar Cortés.
This establishment has been crafting chocolate from farm to bar since 1929! Whether you're a chocolate enthusiast or just curious, Chocobar Cortés offers an extraordinary experience that will take your taste buds on a delightful journey.
Tip: They have chocolate ketchup! It's one of those things that you should probably try at least once.
If you're in Caguas and craving mexican food, you're in for a treat! We stumbled upon a true hidden gem that serves up some of the best Mexican cuisine that I've ever had. First things first - the restaurant itself is a feast for the eyes. The decor is beautifully done, creating an atmosphere that's aesthetically pleasing. It's the kind of place where you want to linger and soak in the ambiance long after your meal is finished.
My favorite?
The Mordida Bowl (pictured above) &
Churros Con Mantecado
Tip: For non-Spanish speakers, come prepared with Google Translate! The menu is entirely in Spanish, which adds to the authentic feel but might be a bit challenging if you're not fluent. Don't let this deter you though - it's all part of the adventure, and the food is well worth the extra effort.
If you're venturing beyond San Juan and craving authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, look no further than Burbujas by Rene in nearby Guaynabo. This local favorite is a wonderful choice for those seeking genuine flavors and a true taste of the island. I opted for the Chuleta Frita (fried pork chop) with rice and beans, and let me tell you, it was a flavor explosion! It's comfort food at its finest, Puerto Rican style!
But here's the real insider tip: whatever you do, do NOT miss out on the fried cheese. It's an absolute MUST-TRY dish that will have you dreaming about it long after you've left-it's cheese perfection! The sauce is sweet which was unexpected but very welcomed!
Despite the packed house when we arrived for dinner, the wait was surprisingly short - just 10-15 minutes. And let me tell you, it was absolutely worth it!
The star of the show? Hands down, the Arroz Mamposteao. This traditional Puerto Rican dish combines rice and beans with a medley of flavors that'll make your taste buds dance. It's comfort food at its finest, and Bebo's nails it perfectly.
Coming in at a close second were the Empanadillas Rellenas. I tried both the pernil (pork) and carne (beef) versions, and they were simply delicious. Crispy on the outside & savory on the inside - what more could you ask for?
While we were too stuffed to try them, the desserts being served to other tables looked absolutely mouthwatering. Based on the enthusiastic recommendations from fellow diners, they seem to be just as impressive as the main courses and I can't wait to go back to sample some of those tempting sweets!
It's clear why this place is so popular among locals and tourists alike!
If you're looking for an unforgettable lunch while in Condado, Puerto Rico then El Refran is a must-visit spot! This place quickly became one of our favorites, and I'm already dreaming about my next visit to explore more of their menu.
My suggestion...Triplecta, a mouthwatering sandwich featuring bistec (steak), ham, chicken, a delicious cheese blend, crispy potato sticks, and the perfect touch of mayo ketchup. It's a flavor explosion that'll have you coming back for more! We lucked out by visiting on a Monday when it was quieter, but we heard it's usually packed - and for good reason! If you find yourself waiting for a table, trust me, it's worth it. The combination of delicious food, friendly service, and local insights makes El Fran a standout dining destination.
